Library Information
All students have a scheduled library time each Enrichment rotation. During this time they check in books they are finished reading, participate in a short skills lesson or story time, and check out new books to read.
Our library also offers open checkout each day. Students who have mastered the checking in and out procedures on their own are allowed to leave class (at the teacher's discretion) to come and trade their books. They are asked to quickly and quietly find new books. Most students in grades 2-4 participate in open checkout.
Book Checkout Policy
At CAPA, we offer all of our students the opportunity to check out library books. Students in Pre-K, Kindergarten and First Grade are allowed to check out one book at a time for one Enrichment rotation. Students in grades 2, 3 and 4 may check out 2 books at a time for two weeks. Students may recheck their books one time before being asked to release them for other students.
Students who have knowingly lost a book or have items that are overdue or damaged are not able to continue borrowing books. All lost or damaged books must be paid for before checkout can resume. We do not charge fines for overdue books, but we love reading and encourage students to return their books in a timely manner so that they can continue to checkout. If you have lost or damaged a book, please see the librarian to find out the cost.
